South Africa's digital tax assistant has new owners. Octoco Group joined the Twofold Capital-led consortium, and co-founder Evan Robinson stays on as Head of Product.

TaxTim, the digital tax assistant that has helped hundreds of thousands of South Africans file their returns since 2011, has been acquired by a private consortium led by investment company Twofold Capital, with Octoco Group as a key partner.

Technical co-founder Evan Robinson took a partial exit and remains with the business as Head of Product. The platform integrates with SARS eFiling, walks taxpayers through their return in plain language, and has processed more than R700 million in refunds to date. It also partners with FNB, Momentum and Capitec.

TaxTim has built a trusted brand, a loyal user base, and a track record of solving real customer problems in a market where simplicity and trust matter most.

Ed du Plessis, Director of Twofold Capital, on the acquisition.

For the group, TaxTim is exactly the kind of company the model was built for: a product people already pay for, technology at the core, and a roadmap that benefits from an engineering team on call. Octoco Consulting and Octoco AI are working with the TaxTim team on the next phase of the product.
