From a focused CTO-services firm in 2020 to a group with three operating companies, a venture studio and a growing portfolio: a look back at the first five years.
Octoco started in Stellenbosch in 2020 doing one thing: fractional CTO work for ventures that needed senior technical leadership and could not yet afford it full-time.
Five years on, the CTO work is still there, but it sits inside a group. Octoco Consulting builds hardware, embedded systems and software end to end. Polymorph, which joined in 2024, designs and builds products with the user at the centre. Yenza Venture Studio takes founders from idea to first revenue. And the investments made along the way, 13 of them by the end of 2024, have become a portfolio with engineers behind it.
The thread through all of it is the same one the firm started with: technology is the foundation of a business, and the people who understand it end to end should be at the table when decisions about it are made.
